kmgb lettering

As yet unfinished. I was just testing the colour. Off to find the paper to use as support. Added quickly from my phone. This is from a sketch book and is written  with witch pens using Gouache on cartridge paper. This is not the final layout that I want and the paper needs more character. I have in mind a heavy handmade watercolour paper hence the use of the witch pen. The 'Rowan Tree' needs to be placed after the 'and'. I was pleased with my performance; no guide lines, a wobbly surface and rushed. The lesson to learn might be 'get on with it'.

First post of this piece composed by our friend Gareth Williams to mark our 25th wedding anniversary last year.It has taken nearly 12 months to fit the job in. The image above, taken with a phone, displays the fall off of the camera flash. Not the best solution, but a start.

Time to do something with this blog. As any of you reading this, who also have your own blogs will know, it is always hard to keep up the momentum and post regularly. I came on this rough piece earlier today and thought "that is what I should do with another piece which is planned". I have a poem to write. It celebrates my wife and my 25th wedding anniversary. It was written by a friend and deserves some care. But like the plumber who hasn't completed his own bathroom it is surely common that a craftsman is always busy with work for others and must neglect work for his own family. So two potentials; a better blog and a finished piece for me and my wife.

These doves were practice for the doves dividing the list of names of those connected to the parish of Penally on the Gower, near to Swansea. A stained glass window had been designed by Tim Lewis. The names were those who had contributed to the project. I was reminded of these when I discovered a leaflet advertising the Gower festival which used an image of the window on the cover. More soon ...

Sara Bowen, who's blog, Double Elephant , I can accross while reading Art&etc , has an interesting piece about her use of the sketchbook. I used to maintain a loose collection of paper and books that served as sketchbooks, until, like Sara, while taking an MA in Visual Communication, I found a more formal need for a visual journal in which to recored my practice. I continue to resolve issues, keep notes and journal entries in the form of a sketchbook, but while continuing in a full time job that isn't my lettering practice, maintaining the journal can be too often put off. I'm hoping that Sara's example will spur me on.
